The Success of Sunday Girl

Dreams should not have any restrictions and most certainly should not have an age limit.

As a consumer of modern media, it can sometimes feel like you have an expiration date.

However, our agency owner Orla Diffily sought to destroy such archaic beliefs by setting up her show and passing the microphone to the voices in the industry who have a story to share.

Always known as a trailblazer in the fashion industry, it is no surprise that Sunday Girl has been a phenomenal success. Every episode, audiences continue to log on to watch the latest instalment - eager to be introduced to the inspirational figure in the line-up.

What is Sunday Girl?

Sunday Girl is an IGTV and YouTube series which aims to inspire viewers to ‘dare to dream’. Created by Orla Diffily in 2020, Sunday Girl gives guests a platform to talk about their personal stories in a relaxed and encouraging environment.

Founded in the wake of the pandemic, Orla originally utilised this platform as a way to connect with people again. Starting with old friends and industry partners, the series has continued to evolve over time.

Throughout the series, a myriad of guests from all walks of life have been encouraged to share their stories about their creative industries, as well as provide advice on how they’ve reached their dreams.

What is Sunday Girl about?

Sunday Girl has covered a wide range of topics, from recommendations on the most impactful books to tales from the illustrious fashion industry in New York.

Orla Diffily, as an experienced host, is not keen on putting people on the hot seat. By giving people the space to lead the narrative, it allows us to get an organic insight into the creative industry in question. Whether it is about fashion, film or literature, nothing is pre-orchestrated.

“With Sunday Girl, it isn’t about making people feel like they’re being grilled for information. I try to give a nice, soft interview in the hopes that people feel comfortable enough to chat about their lives in a safe environment.”

Although she has interviewed people of all ages, the journey originated as an opportunity to speak to people over a certain age.

“In a sometimes ageist society, dreams are often confined to the young. However, as we go through life, it is more important than ever to seek and fulfil our dreams.”

This ethos has guided all Sunday Girl interviews, with the mission to reach your dreams always at the forefront of the conversation. Rather than seeking out the most high-profile names, Orla is more focused on finding personal stories that inspire the ever-growing Sunday Girl audience.

“I’ve been really lucky to meet some incredible and inspiring people through Sunday Girl. But for me, someone doesn’t need to be a ‘worldwide superstar’ to have a story to share.”

When is Sunday Girl on?

It may seem very obvious, but Sunday Girl premieres every Sunday at 8 pm on Orla Diffily’s IGTV and YouTube channel.

Although this may seem a little on the nose, this isn’t all that inspired the now-infamous title. If you are a diehard Blondie girl, you may get the reference but just in case you need some recommended listening

Who has been on Sunday Girl?

Throughout its ongoing seasons, Sunday Girl has given a platform to several familiar faces such as Claire Garvey and Don O’Neill, as well as shining a spotlight on some emerging talents such as Christina Foley and Timmy O’Dowd.

In the show’s tenure, Orla has travelled nationwide to sit down with her guests for chats, laughs and adventures worth tuning in to.

Don O’Neill

Due to their friendship, with Don citing Orla “as the first person to recognise me as a fashion designer in Ireland”, this relaxed and natural interview gives a rare glimpse into the life and career of such a renowned talent without any of the fuss.

Speaking about everything from his love of his dear husband Pascal to his upcoming book, this landmark interview is not one to miss in the Sunday Girl catalogue.

Claire Garvey

If Nile Rogers is there to cut the ribbon for your shop opening, you just know that Claire Garvey has that kind of eye-catching creativity which you just can’t ignore.

In this interview, Irish couture designer Claire Garvey chats to Orla Diffily from her “land of fantasy” in Cow’s Lane in Dublin.

One of the truths told is about the allure of celebrity and how when a famous name wears a designer’s piece, it simply “doesn’t pay for their dinner”. Claire stands by this, simply stating “if you don’t value your work, then who is going to?”

Maurice Galway

The wonderfully artistic Maurice Galway is a Jack of All Trades when it comes to the creative industry. As the founder of ‘The Dingle Animation Festival’ and the former ‘Dingle Film Festival’, Maurice has stories to tell of his own that most certainly warrant their production.

From the dramatic coastline of the Dingle Peninsula, Maurice reveals a few spoilers about what you can expect from the Dingle Film Walks, as well as some insight into what has led him down his ever-evolving (and endlessly creative) career path.

Anne O’Neill

As a Sunday Girl regular, Anne O’Neill is always worth a watch. Not only does her vivacious personality shine through the screen in every episode, but you can guarantee you’ll be walking away with a long list of book recommendations worth writing home about.

With comments of praise and admiration always filling the comments box, it certainly won’t be her last appearance.
